A common problem of over-absorbing high frequencies is that your mixes tend to be treble-heavy in the real world. The holes in Archos act like many small Helmholtz resonators. The cavity + porous backing broadens the absorption bandwidth and mainly absorbs sound energy (especially mid–low frequencies), and reflects higher frequencies.
